What does the McCall MacBain Scholarship cover?

The prestigious McCall MacBain Scholarships cover the following items:

  1. Tuition and fees for the full normal duration of the master’s or professional program
  2. Beginner to advanced French language courses offered through McGill University 
  3. Scholars not pursuing an academic term during the summer may apply for up to $5,000 to pursue meaningful summer initiatives.
  4. A living stipend of $2,300 per month during academic terms
  5. A one-time relocation grant for moving to Montréal

Leadership Development
One of the main aims of this scholarship is to nurture leaders who are ready to create major impacts and develop society. As a result, as part of an interdisciplinary cohort, scholars will learn to tackle complex challenges and deepen their impact through a leadership skills development curriculum. Scholars will participate in annual summer retreats, bi-weekly seminars, supplemental programming, field trips, and other events. They also have the opportunity to engage with Indigenous history, culture, and worldviews through sessions and one-on-ones led by an Elder-in-residence and other speakers.

Eligible Degrees for McCall MacBain Scholarships

Interested applicants can apply for the McCall MacBain Scholarship in 2025 if they are planning to apply for Summer / Fall 2026 admission to a full-time master’s or second-entry professional undergraduate program at McGill University. The program must consist of 45 credits or more and take place primarily on McGill’s downtown or Macdonald campuses in Canada. Below are the degrees eligible.


Master's Degree Programs Eligible
One must apply for a master's program in the following areas to be able to apply for the McCall MacBain Scholarship:
  • MA (Arts) 
  • MArch (Architecture) 
  • MATL (Arts in Teaching and Learning)
  • MBA (Business Administration)
  • MEd (Education)
  • MEng (Engineering)
  • MISt (Information Studies)
  • MM (Management Analytics, Finance, Retail)
  • MMus (Music)
  • MPP (Public Policy)
  • MSc (Science)
  • MScA (Science, Applied)
  • MScAPT (Science, Applied in Physical Therapy)
  • MScAOT (Science, Applied in Occupational Therapy)
  • MSW (Social Work)
  • MUP (Urban Planning)
  • LLM (Law)
  • STM (Sacred Theology).

Second-Entry /Professional Undergraduate Degrees
For the second-entry or professional undergraduate applicants, the programs should be considered: 
  • BCL/JD (Law)
  • DMD (Dentistry)
  • MDCM (Medicine)
Programs that are Excluded from the McCall MacBain Scholarships
  • Graduate certificates
  • Executive master’s programs (EMBA, IMHL, IMPM)
  • PhDs
  • Part-time programs (e.g. GMSCM) and 
  • Joint degree programs 
Even though the above programs are exempt but qualifying-year students may apply at the start of their qualifying year for their upcoming master’s degree at McGill.

Number of Awards Available

There are a total of 30 McCall MacBain Scholarships, and 100 finalist and regional awards that will be offered to candidates who distinguish themselves during the interview process. Here is the breakdown:

Canadian Applicants 

These include Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and refugees
  • 20 McCall MacBain Scholarships
  • 30 Finalist Awards of $10,000
  • 30 Regional Awards of $5,000, tenable at any public university in Canada
International Applicants
Any other citizenship or nationality, including African countries:
  • 10 McCall MacBain Scholarships
  • 25 Finalist Awards of $20,000
  • 15 Regional Awards of $10,000, tenable at any public university in Canada

Eligibility Criteria for McCall MacBain Scholarships

To be eligible to apply for the 2026 cohort of this scholarship, you will need to meet ONE of the following criteria laid:
  • You earned your first bachelor’s degree in the last five years (January 2020 or later)
  • You earned your first bachelor’s degree more than five years ago, and were 30 years or younger on January 1st, 2025
  • You are a current student on track to earn your first bachelor’s degree by August 2026
  • You will also need to meet the minimum degree and language requirements for the McGill master’s program admission. Check that on the University's website.

Application Deadlines for 2026 McCall MacBain Scholarships

The deadlines vary according to the specific country, as detailed below:

  • Canada and the United States Applicants
Students and graduates of universities in Canada and the United States, as well as Canadians abroad, must apply by September 24, 2025, 4:00 PM Eastern Time. 
  • International Applicants
Students and graduates of universities located in other countries, other than Canada, must also apply by August 20, 2025, 4:00 PM Eastern Time.
